1. Mother and baby die following Russian bombing in Ukraine 

A pregnant woman and her baby died in Ukraine after Russia bombed the maternity ward where the baby was to be born.

Ukrainian officials confirmed a Russian airstrike hit a children’s hospital and maternity ward in Mariupol on Wednesday, March 9.

“Images of the woman being rushed to an ambulance on a stretcher had circled the world, epitomizing the horror of an attack on humanity’s most innocent,” reports AP News.

Journalists with AP captured video footage following the attack on the hospital. The woman can be seen rubbing her bloodied belly as emergency rescuers rush her through the rubble of the city.

She was moved to another hospital where she had the baby through cesarean section but it showed “no signs of life,” the surgeon said.

The mother died shortly after.

2. Obama tests positive for COVID-19

On Sunday, March 13, former President Barack Obama tested positive for COVID-19. 

The former president shared the news via Twitter.

"I just tested positive for COVID," Obama wrote on Twitter. "I’ve had a scratchy throat for a couple days, but am feeling fine otherwise. Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, and she has tested negative.”

He also used the post to encourage Americans to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the CDC, COVID-19 cases have continued to decline in the U.S. and other parts of the world.

3. Adele announces concert special

On Monday, March 14, Adele announced another concert special.

According to NBC, Adele will be be releasing a two-hour TV special titled “An Audience with Adele.”

"Adele fans will be able to watch the global superstar in an unforgettable night of music performing her first hometown show since 2017," NBC said in a press release. "The special features Adele's soulful renditions of classic chart-toppers, including 'Someone Like You' and 'Hello,' as well as newer hits such as 'Easy on Me.' Throughout the concert, celebrity attendees ask Adele questions about her idols and inspirations. In addition, Adele is surprised with a guest from her childhood."

"An Audience with Adele" will air on NBC on March 20 at 9 p.m. and will stream the following day on Peacock.
