1. Protesters call for China’s leader to resign

Angered by strict COVID-19 protocols, protestors called for China’s leader to resign. 

On Sunday, Nov. 27, many cities struggled to calm demonstrations which challenged the reigning Communist Party. 

The protest in Shanghai was dispersed by police using pepper spray, as the protesters called for Xi Jinping to resign ending the one-party rule. Yet hours later, protesters rallied again in the same spot, which the police broke up again. 

"Everyone thinks that Chinese people are afraid to come out and protest, that they don't have any courage," said the protester, adding it was his first time demonstrating. "Actually in my heart, I also thought this way. But then when I went there, I found that the environment was such that everyone was very brave."

Protests began on Friday, Nov. 25, spreading throughout the country including in the capital Beijing.

2. Disney’s feast and famine for Thanksgiving 

Thanksgiving offers festivities and feasts for the holiday season, yet Disney did not fill their plate with their latest release “Strange World.” 

The $180 million budget movie reported only $18.6 million in ticket sales over the first five days and an estimated $11.9 million over the weekend in the North American theaters. 

“This was not pre-destined to be a blockbuster Thanksgiving weekend,” said Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore’s senior media analyst.

Yet the top Thanksgiving spot landed another Disney movie, Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” reigning for the past three weekends. Ranking an additional $64 million over the past five days, and grossing over $675.6 million worldwide.

3. “Home for Christmas” performance by Voices of Lee 

Lee Univerisity’s Voices of Lee, an a cappella group, will perform “Home for Christmas” on Tuesday, Dec. 6. 

Voices of Lee has performed throughout the world including at the White House in Washington D.C., the Beacon Theatre in New York City, and the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France. 

“It’s always a pleasure to be at home and share our music with this great community and all of our friends,” said Danny Murray, director of Voices of Lee. 

The performance will be held at 7 p.m. in Pangle Hall. Tickets are free but required, due to limited seating.
