Southeastern University will offer a Doctor of Missiology degree program beginning the fall of 2022.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Southeastern University (SEU) plans to launch a new, interdisciplinary degree program in the fall of 2022 — the Doctor of Missiology. Developed by the SEU Global Ministry Network within the Hoskins School of Mission, the program is in direct collaboration with the university’s global partner, OneHope.

The program is designed to enhance the practice of missiological, strategic, and educational leadership for national, multinational, and global leaders who work in faith-based, missional contexts.

“What distinguishes these leaders and their challenges from traditional organizational leaders is that they are leading missional, faith-based, complex, decentralized, and multi-stakeholder movements — composed of not only multiple organizations, but also of multiple organizational types,” said Mike Cuckler, who serves as the director of the program and also holds this doctoral degree.

“Students in this program will engage in instruction, research, assessment, and publishing,” Cuckler continued. “These activities will equip them in the design and development of educational strategies and structures which can effectively meet the diverse challenges their movements face.”

The Doctor of Missiology degree consists of a total of 30 credit hours and is intended to be completed in three years through an online learning format. The program will include a face-to-face intensive course twice per year, and will be supplemented by pre/post coursework, as well as a doctoral research project addressing both the nature and practice of missiology.

Cuckler emphasized, “In alignment with SEU’s mission, the Doctor of Missiology is the next step for missional leaders to innovate the design and development of programs that foster their constituencies’ divine design to serve Christ and the world through Spirit-empowered life, learning, and leadership.”

Pending approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the program will launch in time for the fall 2022 semester.
