Biden Calls for Temporary End of the Filibuster #shorts #filibuster

President Biden just announced he wants Congress to eliminate the filibuster to codify abortion access into U.S. law. This position — a major departure from his previous view — comes days after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the precedent established by Roe v. Wade, which granted nationwide legal access to abortion.
In 2005, then-Sen. Biden said doing away with the filibuster would be an “arrogance of power” and mark a “fundamental power grab by the majority party.”
Nevertheless, the president now wants the rule eliminated.
“I believe we have to codify Roe v. Wade into law,” he said Thursday during a press conference at the NATO Summit. “The way to do that is to make sure that Congress votes to do that. And if the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, it should be provided an exception for this — require an exception for the filibuster for this action to deal with the Supreme Court decision.”
