1. Coast Guard concludes search for missing people after a Northwest Seaplanes crash

On Sunday, Sept. 4, a Northwest Seaplanes flight departed their sister company, Friday Harbor, and crashed in Mutiny Bay near Seattle, Washington. 

Authorities say the cause of the crash is unknown. 

According to the Associated Press “four Coast Guard vessels, a rescue helicopter and an aircraft had been involved in the extensive search, along with nearby rescue and law enforcement agencies.”

The search for the missing people including one child concluded Monday, Sept 5, after a 10th body was found.

“All next of kin have been notified of this decision,” the Coast Guard said on Twitter. “Our hearts go out to the families, loved ones and friends of those who remain missing and the deceased.”

2. Mary Peltola is the first Alaska Native elected to Congress

Democrat Mary Peltola beat Republican Gov. Sarah Palin on Aug 31 after a 15-day waiting period for mailed ballot results. 

Peltola will be the first Alaska Native elected to Congress when she is sworn in this month. 

Peltola and Palin will be on the ballot in November for the House election. Palin and Peltola have not had a rivalry since they met when Peltola was 24 and serving in the House in overlapping terms.  

"I stay hopeful right until the end, because sometimes you get lucky, right at the end meshes," said Peltota.

3. Memphis, Tennessee named ‘one of the rudest cities in America’

Generally, when people think about the south it's the southern hospitality and kindness; however, a survey conducted by Preply, an online e-learning service, found Memphis Tennessee to be the second rudest city in Tennessee. 

Memphis, scored a 6.05 pushing into the top five rudest cities as well as having one of the most common rude behaviors. 

“The most common rude behaviors in the US include people being absorbed by their phones, refusing to let people merge in traffic and being noisy in shared spaces,” Preply said. 

People reported Memphis displaying rude behaviors such as not letting people merge in traffic and people being too noisy in public.

In contrast, Nashville, Tennessee scored in the top five most polite cities in America.
