Danny Murray, director of Church Relations and founder and director of the Voices of Lee, was celebrated on Sept. 10-11, as Lee University opened the Danny Murray Recording Studio.

The Studio opened Saturday, Sept. 10, as past and present members of Voices of Lee gathered to honor the man who established the brand and legacy of the ensemble. This reunion and celebration consisted of over 50 Voices of Lee alumni reuniting.

“It’s going to be a full house!” said Stephanie Taylor, executive assistant to the Chancellor, earlier in the week.

In 2019, at their 25th Anniversary Concert, the Voices of Lee community and Lee University announced the construction of a new studio commemorating Murray’s career.

The studio will be open to on-campus student groups for recording sessions, said Taylor. “It will also be a teaching environment for students who are majoring in disciplines within the School of Music which are organized around studio work and music business.”

Both Danny Murray and his wife Dr. Debbie Murray have been faithful members of the Lee University community. Dr. Debbie Murray serves as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

“Our alumni community couldn't be prouder of Danny and Debbie Murray, they are so deserving of this honor that will outlive all of us,” said Voices of Lee alumni, Jonathan Sawyer, executive pastor of experiences at North Cleveland Church of God.

“For me, personally, he has been a mentor. He has helped guide my steps here at Lee, and he has helped me grow not only as a musician, but as a person,” said Payton Altman, senior music business major and student director of Voices of Lee. “I'm constantly impressed by his leadership and his example.”

Sawyer said he learned skills that can be applied not only in everyday life but throughout God’s Kingdom while under the direction and leadership of Murray.

“When they leave Danny's mentorship, I believe they are better equipped for life and ministry under him than anywhere else they could find,” said Sawyer.
