Meteorologists say Tropical Storm Ian has intensified into a hurricane and will hit Cuba and Florida this week. Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for all of Florida.

Italian voters elected Georgia Meloni, a member of the Brother’s of Italy party that has neo-fascist roots, as the nation’s first female prime minister. She’ll head the first far-right Italian government since World War II.

Voting ends Tuesday on Russian-backed referendums in parts of Ukraine, while residents fear growing repression in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s call-up of 300,000 more troops in the war-torn region.

And, dozens of FBI agents with guns drawn arrested a Pennsylvania pro-life activist charged with assaulting a man outside a Planned Parenthood clinic last year. The activist’s family says he was acting in self-defense.
