The death toll from this week’s massive earthquake in Turkey and Syria surpassed 21,000, making it one of the deadliest quakes the region has seen in decades. Rescuers are trying to find the last remaining survivors while international groups struggle to deliver aid to victims. Turkey’s president called it the “disaster of the century.”
Former Vice President Mike Pence was subpoenaed by a special counsel probing both former President Donald Trump’s alleged involvement on Jan. 6 and possession of classified documents after leaving office.
And the Chinese surveillance balloon the US shot down earlier this week was capable of collecting communications and intelligence, the State Department said Thursday.
