Netflix to release new user package with lower cost

In November, Netflix will release a plan with lower prices, after Netflix suffered a drop in subscribers due to the rise of other streaming platforms.

The Basic with Ads plan will play 15-to-30-second advertisements showing before and during the videos, at $6.99 per month. The ads will last 4-5 minutes per hour, include a smaller selection of shows and movies due to licensing and users will not be able to download content.

The plan comes after a drop of roughly 200,000 users during the first quarter of 2022 causing the company to lay-off about 150 employees.

"We believe we will have a more valuable business in the long term by staying out of competing for ad revenue and instead entirely focusing on competing for viewer satisfaction," Netflix stated in a letter to shareholders in 2019.

Bakers create life-size bread Han Solo

Co-owners of One House Bakery in Benicia, California have spent weeks assembling a life-sized Han Solo made completely out of bread.

The “Star Wars” character, nicknamed “Pan Solo,” is modeled after Han Solo’s appearance in the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” encased in carbonite.  The Associated Press reports the bakers are big “Star Wars” fans.

Hanalee Pervan and her mother, Catherine Pervan worked during the night after closing their shop to make the 6-ft bread creation. The “Pan Solo” statue now stands outside of the One House Bakery.

Pan Solo is the baker’s entry into the Downtown Benicia Main Street Scarecrow Contest.

Liz Truss versus lettuce, who will last longer

On Friday, Oct. 14, a British newspaper put Prime Minister Liz Truss and lettuce against each other, asking their audience if Truss would lose her job before the vegetable decayed.

The Daily Star even made a livestream showing unrefrigerated iceberg lettuce side by side with a photo of Truss, taking to Twitter asking which will last longer and gaining over 50,000 likes in the first five hours.

Truss has been under fire pushing for her team to reverse a tax decision which forced the Bank of England to intervene in the bond market. The tax cuts had proceeded much faster and gone further than expected, resulting in the Conservative Party to discuss if Truss and her finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng, should be replaced.

Truss fired Kwarteng on Friday, Oct. 14.
