New #Debt Hike Proposal, #Alito Extends Abortion Drug Stay, and #Stampede in #Yemen Kills 78 #shorts
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito extended an administrative pause that allows access to the abortion drug mifepristone through Friday night. This comes after a Federal District Court judge overturned FDA approval of the drug, and a Federal Appeals Court held up parts of the lower court ruling. Alito’s stay allows the high court more time to decide whether or not to roll back access to the drug.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced a GOP-sponsored bill that would hike the federal debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion, and would include spending cuts, along with work requirements for government aid recipients. One Democratic lawmaker expects his party to reject it.
And a crowd apparently panicked by gunfire and an electrical explosion stampeded at a Ramadan charity event in Yemen’s capital late Wednesday, killing at least 78 people.
