#Debt Limit Progress, North Carolina #Abortion Law, and #Saddleback Appeals SBC Ousting #shorts
The North Carolina legislature narrowly overrode Governor Roy Cooper’s veto Tuesday to enact a 12-week abortion ban. The law takes effect July 1, and would reduce the window for allowed abortions from 20 weeks to 12. Exceptions to the ban include rape, incest, medical emergencies and fetal anomalies.
The White House and congressional Republicans say they’re progressing in talks over raising the debt limit. The two sides have rotated negotiating teams for the next phase of the talks before a June 1st deadline and a potential government default.
And the Southern Baptist Convention says that Saddleback Church is appealing its ouster from the denomination for having women pastors on staff. The SBC’s Executive Committee had voted to expel the church earlier this year.
