With the deadline just days away, the White House and GOP leaders are closing in on a deal to raise the country’s debt limit and cut spending to avert an economically devastating default. President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy hope to finalize a deal this weekend that satisfies demands from Republicans and Democrats.
The South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church approved the disaffiliations of 193 local churches that voted to leave the denomination during a special session on May 21 in response to increased acceptance of LGBTQ lifestyles.
And Saudi Arabia and the United States said Friday the warring sides in Sudan’s civil war are adhering better to a new cease-fire following days of sporadic fighting. The latest cease-fire is the seventh attempt at a truce after others were violated.
