Jesus started His earthly ministry on a Bible verse that talked about setting the captives free, and the NTEB Bibles Behind Bars program does just that.
There are no ‘days off’ in the ministry, and here on the 4th of July as we in America celebrate our freedoms, there is much work to be done. The United States penal system holds almost 2 million people in 1,566 state prisons, 98 federal prisons, 3,116 local jails, 1,323 juvenile correctional facilities, 181 immigration detention facilities, and 80 Indian country jails, as well as in military prisons, civil commitment centers, state psychiatric hospitals, and prisons. Today we have heard from 3 of these places who need our help.
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;” Isaiah 61:1 (KJB)
When Jesus chose a verse of scripture to begin His earthly ministry on, He picked Isaiah 61 where it talks about letting the prisoners out of their prisons. Jesus had a heart for people in prison, but the prison He was talking about was the prison of being bound by the debt of sin. He went to the cross to make a payment for that sin, and when we receive it by faith, we are gloriously set free to walk in newness of life regardless of our physical circumstances. Us sending Bibles to jails and prisons doesn’t let them out of their cells, but it gives them the gospel of the grace of God that can set them eternally free whether they remain in jail or not. But fun fact, when a prisoner gets saved, many of them are set free because now they have an Advocate pleading their case before the Father. Getting them a King James Bible, New Testament or scripture portion is the first step in that process.

Chaplain Gary Weiborg of the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution in Milton, Florida needs 2,500 Bibles and we have been working on that since the beginning of June. The Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, Washington needs Bibles. They have an inpatient unit for patients who enter the forensic (legal) unit in the hospital through the criminal justice system. Evaluation and treatment services are provided for adults prior to their trial, after they are convicted or after they are acquitted by reason of insanity. Chaplain Todd Herbert needs another 500 Bibles at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center in Arkansas. The Columbia Correctional Institution in Lake City, Florida needs Bibles for their 1,500 inmates. A quick tabulation brings you to right around 5,000 King James Bibles that are needed right now. Can you help?
To print and send 5,000 King James Bibles is right around $25,000, so we need your help to do it. Please pray that God would raise up Christians with a burden to flood these jail and prison cells with Bibles. It is exciting and intimidating at the same time. It takes a lot of prayer, and a lot of resources to do all this. Praise the Lord we are doing it, all of us together, labouring in the Lord’s harvest field. TO THE FIGHT!!!

When people ask for Bibles, we send them out at no charge. When people write in and say how much they would like gospel tracts but cannot afford them, we send them a box at no cost to them for either the tracts or the shipping, no matter where they are in the world. We have a Gospel Billboard program. We are now broadcasting Bible studies, Podcasts and a Sunday Service 5 times a week, thanks to your generous donations. The Lord has given us an open door with a tremendous ‘course’ for us to fulfill that will create an excellent experience at the Judgement Seat of Christ.
