Deadly Heatwave, Northern Lights Visible in 17 States, and Floodwaters Recede in Vermont #shorts
Many residents in 17 northern states should have a rare view of the Northern Lights or aurora borealis Thursday, as solar storms project a sky show further south, beyond the Arctic region where they normally occur.
An “extremely dangerous and potentially deadly” heatwave is spreading from Florida to California, putting nearly 90 million people at risk of heat-related illnesses. Miami has seen 30 straight days with a heat index over 100 degrees as water temperatures in the Florida Keys are between 95-97 degrees.
And after receiving two months of rain in two days, floodwaters are receding in Vermont cities and towns. Officials and volunteers are focusing on recovering from the disaster, which trapped residents in homes, closed roadways and choked streets and businesses with mud and debris.
