‘We Are Fighting’: Meet the Group Bringing Hope to ‘Dark World,’ Defending Christian Ministries
A Christian organization has spent nearly eight decades helping groups and ministries harness the power of media and communications to spread the Gospel. Troy Miller, president and CEO of National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), recently told CBN’s Faithwire his organization was founded in 1944 after some visionary pastors looked at how to use radio — a relatively new medium at the time — to communicate the Gospel.
The organization quickly grew and continues to be a clearing house for Christian communication. Today, NRB is the biggest force in faith communications, defending biblical values amid difficult cultural terrain. “For 79 years, we’ve been advocating on behalf of Christian communicators to be in the public square,” Miller said, noting how the organization hosts a massive convention each year to help further this mission.
This annual NRB Convention attracts presidential candidates as well as media and ministry organizations from across the world. It’s a massive informational gathering tackling issues that are important to the broader Christian community. Considering the current state of culture and the role believers have played in presidential politics, Miller said he expects evangelicals to play a substantial role in the 2024 election.
This is especially true after the Supreme Court made abortion a state issue with the overturning of Roe v. Wade in last year’s Dobbs decision, among other social and religious liberty battles. “As close as the elections have been over the last several cycles … [evangelicals] could swing the vote one way or the other,” he said. “I think Christians are, even since that [last] election, [are] even more keyed up to the issues that are important to them.” Miller added, “Christians are really concerned about what’s going on today in the culture. So, I think we’re going to see a heavy Christian turnout.”
