Donald Trump surrenders at a Georgia jail on charges he sought to overturn his election loss in the 2024 US presidential election
Good, bad or indifferent, former US president Donald Trump continues to make news as he appeared in a Georgia jail today to surrender on charges related to attempting to overturn his election loss in 2020. The question is no longer was the election stolen, but did Trump and his team conspire to overturn the results whether they were fraudulent or not? Me personally, I lean to the side that says the election was stolen using sophisticated ‘backdoor’ technology, millions of dollars, rewriting local election laws, and of course, the Transition Integrity Project. Remember that? Yet another ‘conspiracy theory’ that turned out to be ‘right on the money’.

What happens now? Obviously Trump will be the Republican nominee, not a one of the current GOP lineup can lay a glove on him. But as far as winning the general election? That remains a far-outside longshot. The main thing that would be in his favor is if enough Republican voters can get irate enough over the very biased and prejudiced treatment Trump is getting to attract voters who stayed home last time. Donald Trump is presumed innocent until proven guilty, but no matter how that shakes out, he is also being railroaded through this whole ‘banana republic’ process.

FROM THE AP: Trump’s surrender, coming amid an abrupt shake-up of his legal team, follows the presidential debate in Milwaukee the night before featuring his leading rivals for the 2024 Republican nomination — a contest in which he remains the leading candidate despite broad legal troubles. His presence in Georgia, though likely brief, is swiping the spotlight anew from his opponents after the debate in which they sought to seize on his absence to elevate their own presidential prospects.

The Fulton County prosecution is the fourth criminal case against Trump since March, when he became the first former president in U.S. history to be indicted. Since then, he’s faced federal charges in Florida and Washington, and this month he was indicted in Atlanta with 18 others — including his ex-chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani — under a racketeering statute normally associated with gang members and organized crime.
Giuliani surrendered on Wednesday and posed for a mug shot. Meadows, who had sought to avoid having to turn himself in while he seeks to move the case to federal court, turned himself in Thursday. Bond was set at $100,000. READ MORE
