Five U.S. prisoners in Iran were freed following a U.S.-Iranian agreement in which Washington released $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets and agreed to return Iranians being held in the United States. Republican fear the move by the Biden administration will spur future hostage-taking.
The United Nations is warning that the recent catastrophic Libyan floods could lead to disease from contaminated water. Nine U.N. agencies are working out of concern that contaminated water from two collapsed dams is already causing illness among both children and adults. Between 4,000 and 11,000 people died in the flooding.
And the crash site for a stealth fighter jet that went missing over the weekend after its pilot ejected was located Monday in rural South Carolina. Authorities had been searching for the jet since the pilot parachuted to safety into a North Charleston neighborhood around 2 pm on Sunday.
