The Hounds of Hell
How long, Lord?
A week ago, it feels like we were still children and even somewhat naïve and innocent, in a certain way.
Then demons murdered Jewish children in front of their parents, in their ancient homeland. In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 7, 1,000 Hamas terrorists broke through Israel’s security fence in the northern Gaza Strip. They made their way a very short distance to kibbutz after kibbutz, slaughtering as they went. They seem to have invented new methods of cruelty and butchery not thought of by even the likes of the Assyrians and the Nazis. The only thing that seems close was the Japanese terror in East Asia, beginning a full decade before Pearl Harbor.
Many have already written about this latest fiendish chapter of human history. It is already being called the darkest day in Israel’s modern history. That is saying something.
I remember the ’73 war, my father paying intense attention to the news. From a human perspective, Israel almost went down to defeat. No, it was more than that; it was another war of annihilation for the Arab armies. God spared them, again.
This is different. Israel’s slow response, the despair of being caught flat-footed, the agony of burying the dead…it all adds up to a next-level horror. I am reminded of a book title, by the atheist evolutionist Carl Sagan—The Demon-Haunted World.
I can’t say much more than has been written. This will be the topic for a while now. We do know that Israel will apparently launch a ground invasion. This time is different. They will not listen to talk of restraint. Each member of Hamas is a walking dead man.
The fallout, after the war, will also be dreadful. Some that simply failed to see this coming will lose their careers. Others will be scapegoated, as in the past (Ariel Sharon in Lebanon in 1982). It seems realistic, at least right now, that it will end Benjamin Netanyahu’s political career.
Until all that, though, the war must be prosecuted with full effort, because this is an existential war. It will always be my contention that Israel will not disappear, for one reason: God says they won’t. Scripture is finished, and sufficient. God cannot lie.
What I really want to talk about this week though is the shattering display this week from some professing Christians that are claiming the Jews of Israel are suffering right now at the hands of Hamas because they, the Jews, rejected Christ as the Messiah.
Last Saturday, Hamas terrorists beheaded babies in front of their parents. Women—including the elderly—were raped on the corpses of their dead family members. Others were placed inside tires drenched in flammable liquid, then lit. Others were shot in the head. Perhaps as many as 200 were dragged away into the hellhole of Gaza. This last point is proving so painful for Israel, I don’t know how they are still upright.
They are upright, of course. The IDF is resolute, and they will be wearing warpaint and terrifying countenances when Hamas has to face them, and not children and women and the elderly. A reckoning is coming. IDF leaders have said Gaza will never go back to what it was.
I am sure Israel will win. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have something up their sleeve that none of us see coming. Hamas is not long for the world.
How then, in this environment, can Christians invoke the “Jews reject Christ” mantra? Here, I am focusing on a very narrow premise: While Israel buries the dead and maneuvers in the caves of hell, stop spewing nonsense. It’s infuriating, honestly. Grotesque.
One other thing. I have heard speculation—by people that know nothing—that Israel had been tipped-off about this by the Egyptians but did nothing. This calls to mind the claims that FDR knew about the impending attack on Pearl Harbor but did nothing because he needed the American people—mostly isolationist at the time—to be motivated for war. Mission accomplished, although it will never be possible to prove that American leadership knew.
As to Benjamin Netanyahu knowing beforehand…stop. You know nothing. For one thing, do you understand how the enemy’s propaganda works? Pure, anti-Semitic filth accuses Jews like this. Do you seriously believe that Netanyahu, the cabinet, and IDF officers would purposely let the demons come through so they could torture and murder children? If you believe this, you are morally lacking. Men whose family members were murdered in the Holocaust would sit back and wait for their people to get butchered again?
Get a grip.
We have no idea how this happened, how Israel got surprised. Cyber attacks? Human intelligence mistakes? Who knows?
Stop speculating on how this happened, and stop with the Jews rejected Jesus slop. That is its own form of barbarism. I won’t listen to it.
Do what you want, but I am going to go forward and pray for the IDF every waking moment for the duration. Pray for the infantry and tank crews if they have to engage in urban fighting. Pray that somehow, by some miracle of God, the captives are still alive and able to be rescued. Pray for Israel’s leaders to now make good decisions.
My only priority in this war is the security of the Jewish citizens of Israel. Period.
(One last thing for now: only a soulless ghoul hopes for civilian casualties, so spare me that charge. Open your minds and think; Arab propaganda is deluxe, having its roots in Soviet operatives. While the world wrings its hands about the death in Gaza right now that has one source—Hamas—and implores Israel to show restraint, notice that today, the IDF ordered Palestinian civilians to leave the northern Gaza Strip and go to the south. So, from where I sit, Israel just saved thousands of Arab lives. They will fight with a moral courage while at the same time acting as God’s avenging angels.)
