The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus :: By Mark A. Becker

Messiah Jesus was most certainly not born on December 25th, and best estimates from Scripture point to the fall – late September or very early October – as the most probable timeframe of His birth. The date of December 25th, however, is actually a very interesting date to consider when it comes to The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus.

For if Jesus Christ was born sometime in late September, then late December may have been the time that The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus was given to the virgin Mary.

Since the Winter Solstice usually occurs around December 21st or 22nd – being the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere – December 25th, or right around December 25th, would appear to be an optimal occasion for the Creator and true Light to make His way to this desperately dark and languishing world.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…

“That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” – John 1:1-5, 9

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 4:6

This devotional is dedicated to The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus.

Underlined Scripture passages are my own emphasis.

The Protoevangelium

The protoevangelium – the first gospel – states:

“And I [God] will put enmity between thee [the serpent, Satan] and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed [Messiah Jesus]; [He] shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” – Genesis 3:15

In the first prophecy found in Scripture, we see the gospel delineated by the fact that no man would be a participant in the giving forth of the Messiah who would “bruise [the] head” of the Serpent, our adversary, Satan.

There would, however, be a woman involved in His birth, but how and to what extent? What does the Bible reveal about The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus?

Messiah Yeshua’s Human DNA

Of Messiah Yeshua, the author of Hebrews notes:

“Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God…. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” – Hebrews 10:5-7, 10

Christ’s miraculous body was a unique creation in every way. Yeshua was not conceived in a natural, biological fashion by obtaining His genetic makeup from a human mother and father. His entire human DNA was uniquely created by God.

“And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.” – Acts 13:32-33

As the only begotten and eternal Son of God, Isaiah prophesied:

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7:14

The Hebrew word for “conceive” is 2030 הָרֶה “harah” and means with child, pregnant.

Literally, “a virgin shall be with child” – something entirely supernatural and unique in all of creation. Thus, according to Isaiah, this holy Son of God, born of a virgin, would be called “Immanuel!”

Isaiah’s prophecy was also confirmed by the angel of the Lord to Joseph, Mary’s espoused husband, in the gospel of Matthew.

“… behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” – Matthew 1:20-23

The angel Gabriel confirmed these amazing prophecies to Mary:

“And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.” – Luke 1:31

The Greek for “thou shat conceive” is 4815 συλλαμβάνω “sullambanó” and can mean to catch, conceive, help, take, to collect, to take, by implication to take part with, to conceive. From sun and lambano; to clasp, i.e. Seize (arrest, capture); specially, to conceive (literally or figuratively); by implication, to aid — catch, conceive, help, take.

Conception, in Mary’s unique virgin experience to be with child, was her willingness to receive The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus as a divinely created embryo supernaturally implanted in her womb (without her ever knowing a man), carry Him to term, and giving birth to the Savior of the world.

“And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” – Luke 1: 38a

The “Holy Thing” within Mary would, of necessity, be a supernaturally unique creation from God!

“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” – Luke 1:35

Mary’s Role in the Birth of Messiah Jesus

Mary was “highly favored” by the Lord, and He was with her, just as He always is with those who love Him. Because of her selection by God to bear and birth the Messiah, the angel Gabriel emphasized to her that she would be “blessed… among women.”

“… [T]he angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

“And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” – Luke 1:26-28

Yet Mary had a sin nature, as we all do, and we should recognize the ramifications of this truth regarding The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus.

If Christ was the Son of Mary, biologically and genetically, then His body would have had a sin nature inherited by all human beings resulting from Adam and Eve’s fall. And if the body of Messiah were to have had a sin nature, then He could have never paid the penalty for the sins of the world.

The sin-bearer must be perfectly sinless, and both God and man!

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

Spiritually and biologically, all sin is transferred from both the mother and the father to their offspring, though the bloodline is given to the child by the father. Because of this foundational truth, Mary’s body could have absolutely nothing to do with the unique creation of Christ. He was God in the flesh, and His flesh could have no inherent sin nature, which would have been the case if Mary’s genetic makeup had anything to do with His embryotic DNA.

Note what David said about himself being conceived in sin by his mother:

“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” – Psalm 51:5

Messiah Yeshua: The Son of David

Yeshua was the Son of David, in one respect, because He had the rights to the throne as an adopted son of Joseph, who was a descendant of David.

“And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.” – Luke 2:4-5

As an adopted Son of Joseph, Messiah retained all the blessings of a natural son, just as we, as adopted children of God the Father, inherit all the promises made to His eternal Son. This is why adoption is such a major theme in the Scriptures.

But there is more!

“Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” – Isaiah 9:7

As far as Messiah Yeshua’s Jewishness, there is every reason to believe that He was the most Jewish of all Jews, including the father of the Jews, Jacob’s son, Judah.

The same concept also applies to Messiah Yeshua as the “Son,” or descendant, of David.

“Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead…” – Romans 1:3-4

As Creator of the human genome, God was obviously more than able to provide Messiah with a purely Jewish and Davidic DNA. The DNA God gave to His Son’s supernaturally unique body undoubtedly had all the genetic markers of a descendant of Judah and of His “father” David in its purest and sinless form.

All of this is why it could be said of Messiah Yeshua that He was the “Son of David,” “the Lion of the tribe of Judah,” and “the Root of David,” as well as the eternally begotten Son of God.

“The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” – Matthew 1:1

“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” – Revelation 5:5

Both by legal adoption from Joseph as a descendent of David and the genetic Jewish/Davidic DNA given to His supernaturally uniquely created body, Messiah Yeshua would have undisputable claim to the throne of David as the Son of David.

“And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.” – Mark 12:35-37

Adam and Christ – The First Adam and the Second Adam

Adam, it should be understood, is the first illustration of Messiah Yeshua in the Scriptures. How?

When Eve was deceived by the Serpent, Satan, Adam willingly took, with his eyes wide open, of the forbidden fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil out of perfect love for his wife. His actions indicate that he did not desire her to be alone in her transgression and rebellion, and he selflessly took a portion of her guilt upon himself by intentionally disobeying the Word of God.

The Scriptures declare that Eve was deceived, but Adam was not.

“For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.” – 1 Timothy 2:13-14

Though Adam was not deceived, he still failed to obey God’s command, even if his failure was because of his devoted love for Eve. Love and obedience to God, above all else, must always be preeminent in our lives.

All of this does not imply that Adam was innocent in the matter, just that his motives concerning Eve were clearly from a heart of concern and love for his wife.

Just as Adam willingly gave himself over to the rebellion of sin in unity with his bride, so, too, did a perfect and sinless Christ Jesus willingly become a perfect sin offering for, and in unity with, His bride, the church.

“For he [God] hath made him [Christ Jesus] to be sin for us [the church, His bride], who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for sins is obviously not limited to His bride, the church, but has been made available to all – past, present, and future – who have faith in the promises of God and His only provision for salvation made through His Son’s selfless, perfect, and loving sacrificial offering for sins on the cross!

Moreover – in relation to our devotional theme – Adam’s body was created perfect, totally free from defect and any inherent sin or sin nature. Just as Adam was a uniquely sinless creation of God, having no parental lineage, so was Christ.

Both Adam’s and Christ’s bodies were supernaturally and uniquely created perfect, and both Adam and Christ were tested. As noted above, only one command was given to Adam regarding the prohibition of eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die [literally, dying, thou shall surely die].” – Genesis 2:16-17

This one command was the only prohibition God laid upon Adam and Eve, and they failed the test, with the consequences of God’s curse entering a now-fallen world. The sin nature that Adam and Eve inherited would be passed down to every human being that would be born thereafter.

Christ, the Scriptures declare, was also tested.

“For we have not an high priest [Messiah Jesus] which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted [or tested] like as we are, yet without sin.” – Hebrews 4:15

Paul equates Christ’s unique creation with Adam’s unique creation, with important distinctions:

“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.” – 1 Corinthians 15:45-47

Adam was a unique creation made of the earth and was “natural,” while Jesus, being God in the flesh, was uniquely “made a quickening spirit” and “is the Lord from heaven.” While Jesus had human DNA, the DNA He had (and still has) is uniquely His own.

God’s ‘Very Good’ Creation

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” – Genesis 1:31

The Hebrew for “it was very good” – or “it was good very” – is broken down as follows:

The Hebrew for “[it was] good” is 2896 ט֖וֹב “ṭō·wḇ” and can mean pleasant, agreeable, good, excellent, perfect, beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, at ease, fair word, be in favor. In the context of Genesis 1:31, excellent and perfect would be the idea behind this word.

The Hebrew word for “very” is 3966 מְאֹ֑ד “mə·’ōḏ” and can mean exceeding, exceedingly, greatly, very, diligently, especially, far, fast, good, louder and louder. In the context of Genesis 1:31, exceeding and exceedingly is the concept behind the word.

Therefore, a better rendering in modern-day English might be “exceedingly perfect and excellent” or, more literally, “perfect and excellent, exceedingly!”

Adam and Eve lived in an exceedingly perfect environment with exceedingly perfect bodies. The animals and the rest of creation experienced the same. Hence, there are many deductions we can logically and rationally formulate when contemplating this truth.

For instance, pain, sickness, disease, and death were non-existent for Adam, Eve, and the animal kingdom. Death – along with pain, sickness, and disease – would not come upon humanity, the animals, and creation itself until Adam and Eve rebelled against the Word of God at the prompting and instigation of our Adversary.

We can also surmise that certain other conditions were not experienced by God’s exceedingly perfect and excellent creation, which is common and prevalent in our everyday fallen experience.

No physical infirmities, including accidents of any kind, would have occurred; Adam, we could logically conclude, “never stubbed his toe” — and even if this would have been possible, it would not have hurt! Mental infirmities of any kind would also be unknown.

When it comes to digestion, their vegetarian diet would have been entirely absorbed by their exceptionally perfect human bodies without any waste by-product. The same for the animal kingdom. Waste could never be a part of a creation that God declared was perfect and excellent exceedingly.

These are just a few of many logical and rational deductions we can make from God’s exceedingly perfect and excellent creation.

The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus

When we consider The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus, we recognize that Yeshua lived in a fallen world and experienced many of the repercussions of a cursed creation that He Himself warned Adam and Eve of, should they rebel against His one command to not eat of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The Scriptures reveal that The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus experienced many of the same internal and external effects of living in this fallen world that we all do.

Some of these experiences Christ encountered include the following:

Christ was hungry when He fasted 40 days and 40 nights (Matthew 4:2). Yeshua experienced tiredness (Luke 8:22-25) and weariness (John 4:6). Jesus groaned in His spirit, was troubled, and wept at the ramifications of death and the curse that He Himself put upon humanity and creation after the fall (John 11:33-35). Christ experienced anger, though His was a righteous indignation (John 2:13-16).

Jesus also suffered the most intense mental and bodily stress any human being has ever undergone – in Gethsemane, with His upcoming crucifixion approaching.

Most glorious of all for humanity was that Messiah willingly experienced the shedding of His perfectly sinless blood and separation from His Father on the cross in payment for man’s sins in order to reconcile those who would, of their own free will, give their lives to Him in faith and trust, accepting His free gift of salvation that satisfied the Father’s wrath against a rebellious humanity. No other human being could ever experience what the Son of God experienced during His passion for saving humanity.

The lengths that God, through Christ, went through to reconcile a rebellious people back to Himself is beyond words to express and is nothing short of awe-inspiring and truly breathtaking.

But have you ever wondered and considered other potential aspects regarding The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus while He lived in this fallen world at his First Advent?

Did Jesus cry as an infant? Was He ever sick or felt under the weather? Did He ever have a side ache, indigestion, or get nauseous from a bad meal?

Did He ever “stub His toe” or injure Himself, or was He injured by others in any way before His crucifixion?

Was Jesus ever depressed or disillusioned at any point in His life (apart from the wickedness He witnessed within His fallen creation)?

We will leave off this discussion here for the reader to meditate on their own how The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus may or may not have been affected by His living in a fallen world.

Honestly, though, we will never know for sure the answer to these very interesting and intriguing questions and considerations this side of heaven, but they are certainly an exercise in contemplation!

The one thing we do know is that, like Adam, The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus was a uniquely supernatural creation of our Creator, perfect in every way for the mission He was to undertake at His First Advent.

For what He did for us with that miraculous body – in living a perfect and sinless life and offering up that perfect and sinless body to the Father on the cross to pay a price we could never pay for our salvation – is the greatest love gift God could ever give to humanity.

“God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Every day should be a celebration for believers, as 2,000 years ago, our Lord and Savior came into this fallen world, being both fully human and fully God. The Miraculous Body of Messiah Jesus began as a uniquely supernaturally created embryo implanted in the womb of Mary by the Holy Spirit, going to term, and then birthed in a manger – quite the humble human advent for the eternal Creator, Savior, and Redeemer of humanity and creation!

Messiah Jesus then went on to live a perfectly sinless life, with nowhere to lay His head, ultimately offering Himself as a ransom price to the Father as He shed His perfect and precious blood on the cross – a gift of love, if received by faith – a salvation intended for all of humanity to receive.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” – John 3:16-17

“Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” – 1 Timothy 2:4-6

Paul summarized “the mystery of godliness” in the following way:

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” – 1 Timothy 3:16

Can there be any doubt that God did everything He could do to rescue and reconcile a lost, dark, and dying world back to Himself by offering His eternal Son in love for us?

There was no other way God could save humanity. And in His sovereign grace and love for us, before He ever created, He decided it was worth it to Him. This is the passion of God toward us when He gave us His perfect gift of love — His eternally begotten Son, Jesus Christ, “who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross” on our behalf.

“… Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

“For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.” – Hebrews 12:1b-3

“Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” – 2 Corinthians 9:15

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving us with a passion that surpasses all human understanding. You are more than worthy of our utmost thankfulness, praise, and heartfelt love, as You are our life and our joy and our everything.

May we all keep Answering the Call of The Great Commission, and giving an answer to every man and woman who so desperately needs Jesus and asks us, “Why Am I Here and What Is It All About?”
