Lloyd Austin in Israel, Pope Blesses Same-Sex Couples, and Mounting Pressure for a Ceasefire #shorts
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Tel Aviv yesterday, pledging “unwavering” U.S. support for Israel. While there, Austin announced the formation of an international task force to patrol Red Sea waters where Iran-backed Houthi rebels threaten shipping lanes.
Pope Francis formally approved letting Catholic priests bless same-sex couples, the Vatican announced Monday. The Pope affirmed marriage as a union between a man and woman, but suggested blessings could be offered to same-sex couples under some circumstances if they didn’t confuse it with the ritual of marriage.
And the head of the CIA is in Europe to meet with Israeli and Qatari officials about another potential cease-fire and release of hostages in Gaza. Global pressure is mounting against Israel as some of its closest allies – France, the UK, and Germany – joined international calls for a ceasefire over the weekend.
