It means “no for now, but not forever.” It is OK to tell your children no. When Matt was a kid, the majority of parents agreed on what was right and wrong. One neighborhood dad with a lawn chair could correct the kids on the cul de sac as they played ball and everyone felt safe. Today, there are such wide variations in belief systems that you dare not instruct anyone else’s child. God calls us to establish culture, not to fit into the world’s culture. In our communities, we should be living that out and loving our neighbors as God calls us to do. We need to raise our kids to become godly adults and not apologize for it, even when someone disagrees with our world view.
